Weekly Lenten devotionals beginning on Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022

Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, Mondays on March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 7, 14

To help you to encounter God in a fresh way during Lent we are offering a weekly devotional resource that will guide you to pray with Scripture. A weekly written and audio devotional will help you enter into the Easter story.

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, March 2nd, a devotional will be accessible on our website. Each Monday a new resource will be available for your weekly meditation until Easter.

These devotionals will give all of us the opportunity to pray the Sunday Gospels of Lent together. Using the ancient Christian practices of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina, we will listen together with the ear of our hearts.

Allow yourself to be surprised that even though we are not in each other’s physical presence you can experience the power of community prayer.

About Lectio for Lent

Lectio for Lent is a 7-Week Christian weekly devotional resource to help you engage the Easter story as you contemplate and pray with Scripture.

Each Devotional

We will begin each devotional with stillness and silence to gather our scattered senses and thoughts. A Psalm will be read, followed by Lectio Divina on a Gospel passage. A time for reflection and intercession will conclude our time together.

Read or Listen

Lectio for Lent is presented in both text and audio formats. We suggest you find a quiet space, if comfortable close your eyes, and prayerfully listen to the recording.

Feel free to pause the recording to sit with what is stirring within you. You may find it helpful to read along with the recording or to meditate with the scriptures without the audio version.

Each Week

You can access a new devotional on Ash Wednesday and the following Monday mornings until Easter. Make space in your schedule to pray through the devotional every day except Sundays. We suggest early in the mornings before you begin your day.

Marinate

Meditating on the same passage for five days will marinate your heart and mind with the experience of Jesus during his last days on earth. Savor the nourishment that the living word will give you.

What is Lectio Divina?

Lectio Divina comes in many forms. It is a way of prayerfully reading the Bible used by Christians for many centuries. The practice is usually described as having four movements.

Lectio– Reading the passage, letting it wash over you, noticing words or phrases that grab your attention.

Meditatio– Reading the passage again, put yourself in the story, notice what images, sensations, or feelings stand out.

Oratio– Reading the passage a third and final time, respond to God with a prayer of what you've just seen and heard.

Contemplatio– Wordlessly savor the experience in God's presence.
